Crew Life : Devil wears Kebaya (Part 1-9) Marathon

Disebalik senyuman dan keayuan wajah , tersimpan perangai puaka seorang peramugari. Bukan semua la...tapi ada dikalangan peramugari yg terbang di awan biru.


Mereka adalah dikalangan  'seniors' yg dah lama bekerja. Wajah yg agak garang, perfect grooming, kerja yg tip top, menyakinkan mereka utk berada dalam kategori ini.


Muka garang yg dimaksudkan ialah ada ciri2 muka sombong, suka melirik mata dan susah nak didekati. Perfect grooming pula bermaksud make up yg takde flaw...eye liner, bedak, lipstick yg glossy, rambut dibun croissant yg amat tinggi dan perfect tanpa sehelai baby hair pun keluar di bahagian tengkuk. 



Crew yg lain menggelar mereka as 'bitchy' or 'kaki taruh'. Bitchy is not a nice word kan? But this words fits their profiling la and some do feel proud bila dipanggil as 'bitchy'. Kaki taruh simply means jenis yg suka marah2 dan akan cari pasal. Working with that type will make your working hours like HELL. This hell located 33,000 feet above sea level. Welcome ! Welcome !

" Hi Cathy, I'll be working with you. I kinda new and this is my 3rd flight solo" kata stewardess baru ni.

" So? It's not my bloody problem right?"  said Cathy


Sebab minah baru ni beriya2 buat intro pasal dia budak baru and all, is a way to tell that she needs guidance frm her senior. But to Cathy, when you don your kebaya...you are expected to perform with NO excuses.

On the way to the aircraft, she walks with lots of worries in her mind. Hati duk dup dap duk dap, not knowing what could happen to her throughout the flight. Yes! She will be in HELL. That's for sure. Bila sampai London nanti, rambut dia yg bun ni akan berubah wajah...huhuhu


As she enter the aircraft, she immediately perform her ground duties. In her mind she hopes that she is able to complete her task as quickly as possible without any mistakes. Tau2 je la kan...so many things to do...so little time. Being new and all akan terkena sindrom BLUR dan lembap sikit sbb tak biasa buat.

Mata Cathy mula memerhatikan setiap gerak langkah, mencari kesilapan. Terkial2 new crew ni membuat kerja berpandukan nota semasa belajar di academy. 

"Kenapa u ni slow sangat haaaa? My nenek can do it faster than you !! lembap !!! Hisssshhhhhh!!" . She ended up taking over your job. Menunjukkan how simple it is and how cepat she can work. 


Selepas all passangers boarded the aircraft, here come the PIS (passengers information Sheet). She will need to memorize all the passengers names by hard according to their sit. All 24 of them. After take off, she must remember all names and that's her dateline.

Belum lagi nak take off, dah diuji.

"Mr Terry ask for newpaper...! Get one for him now"


This is how the senior test Amy whether she can remember the passenger names or not. Terkial2 la kan cari newpaper and start wondering siapa dari 24 orang tu is Mr Terry. The minute she refer to the list, she akan Kantoi and the kaki taruh will know that she tak hafal nama penumpang.


Selepas check nama dan hantar newspaper, Cathy look at her as if she is going to swallow her up. Why? sbb she send the newspaper to someone else. She might have seen the name list wrongly.

"Are you blind or  stupid. ??? jerit Cathy.
"SSSSorry...I get another paper...right away" she replied.


In business class, passengers often ask for cocktail drinks even before take off. You must also memorized by hard on how to make the drink. Apa nak campur apa...nak cari kat mana...terkial2 lepas tu. Mana ada masa refer2 buku dah time tu.


"Mrs Jacob wants Bloody Mary and her husband wants Sweet Manhattan" Cathy ask Amy.


 First, Amy must know how to fix the drinks, then to find out who to give it to. Imagine to do all that when she have only ten minutes before the aircraft push back. She have to do it quickly and she must collect all the glasses before taking off.

As she was looking for the glasses, she suddenly jadi blur and started searching everywhere.

"It's over THERE !!!!!" Cathy shouted.

Dah la ada bermacam jenis glass. She mistakenly took a different type of glass for a cocktail.

"Whattttt!!! this is not the one....tu la masa instructor ajar....u TIDOOO !! Hishhhh" Cathy menjerit sambil menunjukkan gelas yg sepatutnya diambil.


Baru je kerja setengah jam yg pertama, seperti rasa nak melompat keluar dari kapal terbang. She have another 12 hours to go before reaching her destination.


Masa kapal take off, she have about 10 minutes sitting down to figure out what do right after take off. She also knows that Cathy going to be there all the way with her....


The aircraft finally taking off. While she was seated, she reviewed her upcoming duties in her mind. Ibarat menghafal sifir sebelum masuk kelas Cikgu Hafsah pulak rasanya. Satu perasaan yang pernah dirasai Amy semasa beliau di sekolah rendah.


The seatbelt signs are now off. She quickly proceed to the galley, getting ready to take drink orders from passengers. While taking orders, she often interrupted with lots of other request frm passengers. Nak extra pillow la, magazine la.....From a distance, Cathy is starring at her and looking at her watch. 

"nenek ko la ! nak extra pillow la ...tadi xnak mintak! Singa betina tu plak tak reti nak SABAR!!" amy mengeluh aka carut dalam hati.


As she enters the galley, Cathy snap her drink order sheet from her hand. 

"Lembap!!! nak amik order sampai 15 minit. !!" Cathy scolded her while looking at her order sheet.


Belum sempat menarik nafas lega...."Amy come here!" sambil mengoyangkan pen 'cross' silver kearah muka Amy.

"Ni ke cara you amik order?" Cathy bertanya sambil mencekak pinggang. "Kerja jangan malas boleh x? Mana jumlah minuman?" She suddenly remembered that she needs to total up minuman according to jenis minuman.

Cathy mencampakkan drink order sheet list tu di atas galley top sambil menjerit "Total it up!!!"

Beers - 4
Teh tarik- 3
red wine - 3
and so on.

While waiting for drinks to be prepared, she quickly walk to the cabin dengan niat nak melarikan diri dari mengadap muka Cathy. Amy pretended that she's busy entertaining passengers request. 

Takde pulak passenger mintak yg bukan-bukan! So sebab ta nak masuk ke galley mengadap muka singa tu, Amy buat catwalk Naomi kat cabin sambil tersengeh-sengeh pandang penumpang. Bila dah sampai ke hujung, dia patah balik....ada la empat round Amy pusing sampai penumpang rasa pelik plak.
Al konon nak buat PR tapi tak seorang pun free...masing2 duk layan skrin tv, baca newspaper dan majalah.

Once the drinks are ready, she quickly move her ass to the galley. Dari jauh dia dah nampak dah. Chewahhh...Amy datang sebelum dipanggil. She will now need to arrange the drinks according to the seat. Easier for her to serve. Thank god she remembers how to do that!

Nak keluar je ke cabin, hantar minuman...Cathy called her again. 

"Heyyy perempuan! I think there's something wrong with your brain!" 

She suddenly remembered that she's not supposed to mix minuman beralkohol and normal drinks on one tray.  Muslims will be offended if you do that! She quickly rearrange the drinks.

Terkedek-kedek Amy hantar minuman lepas tu. Sampai je di seat 15 A. Mat Saleh ni menegur.

"Are you ok dear?'

"I am ok...Mr....." Amy tersedar yg mukanya masam mencuka dan dia tak ingat nama passenger 15 A tu. Tadi tersengeh2 ...skrg muka masam mencuka sebab baru lepas kena marah. Mana tak penumpang 15A tu tak pelik. Nama pun tak ingat. Nasib baik Cathy xde kat situ...kalau x mampossss.

Selepas menghantar minuman, Amy ke galley dan nampak Cathy tengah marah2 kat galley steward (peramugara yg incharge of the galley). Cathy mengamuk sebab satay yg bakal dihidangkan tak cukup panas. Amy terus lari semula ke cabin buat2 busy. Here she go again. tersengeh2 sambil catwalking.

Bila satay dah siap dihidangkan diatas trolley, Cathy called for her.

"Heyyy...tengok muka kau tu...dah macam kucing nak beranak dahhhh...go and touch up!!!" Cathy scolded her. Dengan segeranya Amy ke toilet melihat groomingnya didalam cermin.

Memang muka Amy dah serabai habis. Rambut dah terkeluar. Bila melihat muka di cermin, she started to wonder in her mind. "What the hell I am doing here!" Rasa mcm nak nangis dah. Tapi bila fikir semua ni akan berakhir, Amy kuatkan semangatnya.

She took the table linen and dressed the table dalam keadaan amat kelamm kabut. Lipatan alas meja tak tentu arah jadinya. Baru Amy teringat yg dia dah lupa nak susun dan lipat linen dengan betul agar senang nak bentangkan kat meja penumpang. Nasib baik...Cathy tak perasan!

Satay dihidangkan with CCTV (Cathy) watching her all the way. Terketaq-ketaq tangan. Dah la nak kena cepat pastu kena serve the right way. Cara letak satay atas coupe plate kena betul...lidi satay kena pointed pukul 4. Sebelum tu kena letak all the cutleries at the right place...yg kirinya dan yang kanannya, semua nak kena ingat!

After two rows serving satay..."Move your trolley to the galley NOW!!" bisik Cathy ke telinga Amy.

Sampai je kat galley, Cathy scolded her. Not just  her but to the galley steward as well for not changing the kuah kacang dan satay yg sudah sejuk di atas trolley.

"Stupidd! Serve sejuk2! You think passengers bayar thousands of ringgit travelling  in business class, nak makan satay SEJUKKK you tu!!"

ya tak ya jugak. Bayar ribu-ribu pastu makan satay suam2 kuku...lol

Dalam hati Amy dah rasa mcm nak cucuk muka Cathy yg flawless tu ngn lidi satay. Steward ni pun satu hal...tak dtg tukar!

Perut pulak lapar..rasa nak curi makan sebatang dua satay nieh tapi apa kan daya, CCTV pulak yg akan cucuk muka ko tu ngn lidi satay kalo dia tau...hahaha

Datin Maimon: Excuse me! can you pls pass me my bag? (sambil menunjuk ke arah bag yg ada la 2 meter dari tempat duduknya)

Dalam hati Amy, makkk aii malas nak mampos Datin Maimon nieh...Ini pun nak mintak tulun kaa? Berat punggung kowt...tah2 sindrom sengal tulang sum2.

Datin Maimon : Oh no! Not  this bag. Can I have my LV bag. It's in the above compartment.

Amy pun carut lagi dalam hati....dah nyanyuk ke mak datin ni...letak mana pun tak henggat! Dibuka oleh Amy compartment atas tu....

Tengah Amy nak menarik bag LV tersebut.....KRAKKKKK. Alamak! koyak pulak bahagian ketiak kebaya ketat Amy. Aiyoooooo! Dengan segeranya Amy memberikan bag LV tersebut kepada Datin Maimon lalu bergegas ke bagnya mengambil spare uniform yg dibawanya. Tanpa berlengah lagi Amy terus ke toilet berhampiran utk menukar uniformnya yg koyak itu.

Selepas bersalin baju, sebaik saja keluar dari toilet terperanjat beruk Amy bila dihadapannya ialah Cathy dengan muka bengis sambil berpeluk tubuh.


"Next time...if you want to go anywhere...bagitau la dulu! Ini main tinggalkan je service!" marah Cathy.
"Sorry! My baju koyak..I lupa nak bagitau" jawab Amy.

Nak pergi toilet pun kena bagitau. Dah macam zaman sekolah dah...."Teacher, may I go to the toilet?". The thing is, when you are working...if you need to go somewhere, you must tell someone. Not asking for permission but to tell them where you are...just in case.

Gara-gara nak ambil bag LV, koyak baju aku...Datin tu plak  tak reti nak say thank you. Haram jadah ! dia ingat aku ni AMAH dia ke? Nasib baik bawak spare, kalo tak haruslah ketiak masuk angin dan dapat bonus kena marah ngn Cathy.

Amy pun terus meneruskan service yg ditinggalkannya tadi. Buat second offer of satay to passengers. Lepas second offer, Amy terus collect empty glasses, lidi satay dan coupe plate yg ada diatas meja penumpang. Dibuangnya terus sampah tersebut kedalam trash compartment.

"Aihhhh! main collect je! Did you ask before collecting? Next time, ask and offer them sama ada dorang nak top up their drinks or not!" marah Cathy sebaik saja Amy sampai ke galley. 
"I'm not finished !!! Change dirty linen yg dah kotor tu...with your size of brain...I need to tell you that...kalo tak...tak buat !!!..Lepas tukar...go downstairs and get extra roti frm the main deck" tambah Cathy.

Ingatkan dah habis...ada lagi. "Jangan main buang je sampah...use Amenities bag first! lepas dah penuh baru buang dalam trash compartment tu !" . There is such thing as "Rubbish Management". If you don't trow rubbish wisely, you will ended up having problems later on. Flight 12 hours, sampah kalo main buang je akan berlambaklah sampah diluar nanti. Not just that, you need to seperate your sampah like bottles etc.


Masa turun ke bawah nak amik roti, sempat crew kat bawah bertanya "Amacam..mak tiri ko kat atas?". Rasa nak dijawab n kutuk tapi takut pulak jawapan tu nanti sempai ke telinga Cathy nanti. So, Amy just tersenyum cantek kat crew tu.

"Alaaaa...I tau you stressed! Takpe la...just fikir mcm ni...sampai London nanti...kita enjoysss ok!" tambah crew busy body tu. Kata-kata tu serba sedikit melegakan hati Amy. 

Sebelum keluar utk service seterusnya, mak tiri aka CCTV...devil wears kebaya tu...bertanya soalan cepu cemas. "What are we serving today?" Dari tau jawapan sebab amik order tadi terus hilang ingatan kejap. "Errrrr....." Cathy yg berada didepan mata, membesarkan mata terus mencampakkan menu cards ke muka Amy. Amy pun dengan muka seposen mengutip menu cards yg telah jatuh ke lantai.

"Jangan keluar selagi tak ingat menu !" jerit Cathy.

Alahaiiiii....sodih benar rasanya Amy masa tu. Tak disangkanya kerja yg dianggap glamour mcm ni jadinya...glamer la sangattt. Ditatap kandungan menu tersebut dan cuba dihafalnya. Amy memang lembap sikit bab2 menghafal ni. Kat sekolah dulu...itulah kelemahannya. Disangkannya kerja crew tak perlukan beliau menghafal apa2 tapi kena jugakkk.

Tiba-tiba steward yg berada disebelahnya bersuara. "Amy...take it easy. Buat bodo je. We are serving...bla bla bla (disebutnya satu persatu aturan menu bertujuan utk membantu Amy)" Barulah Amy mampu tersenyum.  Didengarnya menu tersebut dari mulut steward tersebut sambil memandang tepat kearah matanya.

"Ensem jugak steward ni" kata fikiran Amy mula nak menggatal."Ishhhhh! Fokus! Fokus!

Tinggggg! seatbelt sign is on.

"Tuan-tuan & puan-puan, kita mengalami keadaan cuaca yg kurang baik. Sila kembali ke tempat duduk dan pasangkan tali pinggang keledar anda"

"Ladies and gentleman, due to adverse weather condition, pls return to your seat and fasten your seatbelt"

Kedengaran bunyi pengumuman, lalu terus Amy bersama steward ensem ke cabin memeriksa keadaan penumpang.

Sedang memeriksa cabin, tiba-tiba kedengaran announcement frm cockpit "Cabin Crew! to your station". Terkial2 Amy bergerak ke crew station. Sebelum tu Amy kena clear semua loose object, tak pasal2 terbang melayang menda2 tu nanti.

As she was seated, Amy duduk melanguk melepas penat. Kapal terbang terhenjut2 ganas for few times dan lepas tu seatbelt sign dipadamkan menandakan  it's all over and she should resume her duties. Baru je nak melepaskan penat dah kena mula balik. Nasib baik tak mula full meal service lagi...kalau x haru biru dibuatnya nak clearkan semua menda..

As she enters the galley, a single chime kedengaran menandakan there's a call from cockpit. Panggilan tersebut diangkat oleh Cathy. Oh! Cockpit crew nak minum la pulak. Lepas menerima pesanan, Cathy pun pass to the galley steward the order.

After that Cathy went downstairs to do something else yg berkemungkinan arahan tambahan dari cockpit.

"Macam haram kan? Dah tau kita tengah buat service...masa ni la jugak dia nak minum !! Teh tarik plak tu !!" maki galley steward tu sambil didengar oleh Amy. Sebaik saja minuman siap, Amy pun menghantar minuman ke cockpit.

"Yanggggg...call cockpit dulu yaaaa....jangan main terjah je!" arahan dari steward tu.

Wahhh ! panggil Yangggg lagi.....Amy rasa mcm nak pengsan dah sbb dipanggil sebegitu oleh steward yg sangat kacak bernama Rosley itu.

Selepas masuk ke cockpit, Amy pun menyapa cockpit crew dan menghidangkan minuman yg tersedia. Captain Bohari memberi respond....."Lain macam je warna teh tarik ni...siapa buat ni?"
"Rosley yg buat Captain " jawab Amy.

Teh tarik yg Rosley buat dah kena reject ngn Captain Bohari. "Alah ...tak sedap la ni....saya nak Amy yg buatkan boleh? Mesti Amy pandai buat air kan?" tanya Captain Bohari.

Pulakkk dahhhhh... Amy mula risau...dia tak pernah buat air teh tarik seumur hidup dia....buat2 air ni it's not her thing at all. Tah2 lagi teruk rasanya dari teh tarik Rosley tu.

As proceed to the galley. Cathy ternampak gelas berisi teh tarik yang tak diminum tu.

OMG...here comes trouble.

Sebaik saja Amy keluar dari pintu cockpit, terperanjat yang amat sangat terpancar diwajahnya apabila melihat Cathy berpeluk tubuh melihatnya dari jauh.

"What's wrong with the Teh Tarik?????" tanya Cathy


"Captain kata tak sedap, he needs another one" Amy menjawab pertanyaan Cathy.

"Mengada betul Captain ni !! Bukan dia tak tau yg kita tgh buat service!!...Nak menggatal je keja !.Let me do it !"  marah Cathy.

Terkedu jugak Amy melihat reaksi  Cathy. Disangkanya, kena maki tapi sebaliknya pulak. Disebalik kegarangan Cathy, Amy merasakan yang Cathy menjaga crewnya dari dibuli. Meaning what? "Nobody bullies my crew except ME!!" kowt or simply because she wants to cake care any crew under her care. Allahualam.

Muka galley steward Rosley dah mula tension kerana one of the Inventum Oven doesn't work. He needs to transfer all the meals in that particular oven , to the other one that's working. But ..there's a problem. All the oven currently heating other meals as well. He need to quickly change it once the meal is ready. A lot of work to be done and there is a possibility a slight delay on the main course to be served.

Cathy yang baru balik dari menghantar minuman ke cockpit terus bertanya "Is the meal ready?".

"One of the oven doesn't work" jawab Rosley.

"Did you check the oven on ground?" ask Cathy

" I did...everything was fine..when I checked it" balas Rosley.

Cathy quickly refer the cabin log for defect. It's has been log in by previous crew....stated that Oven 712 slow heating and also an indication frm maintenance that it can only be fixed once the aircraft return to KUL due to unavailable spare parts.

Rosley dah kantoi. He supposed to check the cabin log on ground for defects. If he take note of the oven defect, he might have place meals yang portion paling sikit dalam oven yang slow heating tu hence he could avoid delaying the service. But it's too late now.

"How long you have been flying?" tanya Cathy dengan nada memerli.

"5 years.." jawab Rosley dengan nada yang sangat perlahan.

"5 years huh? It's obvious that you don't know anything about galley management" marah Cathy.

Rosley tahu sebenarnya. He simply forgets to check the cabin log. Kapal arrive late and he only had 10 minutes to do all his ground duties. Bila kapal sampai tadi, chaos sikit with cleaners cleaning the cabin and the catering uploading meals.

Muka Rosley bertambah masam after kena sound dengan Cathy. A relief for Amy because as she is not the only person yang KENA on this flight. Cathy's attention sort of beralih pada Rosley pulak so memberi sedikit ruang pada Amy menarik nafas lega.

Not for long! Disebabkan service sedikit delay...mood Cathy dah menjadi bertambah buruk. Cathy then scolded Amy sebab lambat buat collection and failure to top up passengers drinks. The crew would have to react as if there's no delay by providing drinks to passengers. With problems in galley, and Cathy who happens to divert her attention towards the problem in there, the cabin duties is all hers. Imagine.....all 24 passengers!

As she walks in the cabin....an english young lad by the name of Mr Brian Terry call for Amy.

"Can you please help me....my tv screens doesn't seems to work...It's blank"

Terhegeh2 Amy duk menekan remote utk access masalah tersebut but nothing. "Mr Terry....Can I get back to you...sir?"

Bedebar-debar jantung Amy. She don't know how to handle the problem. Obviously she needs to refer to either Cathy or Rosley. But...the thing is both of them are damn busy in the galley. Asking them will be tindakan berani mati atau BUNUH DIRI. She will now need to think of something quickly before Cathy finds out.

She ran downstairs quietly  to the main deck asking for help. "Seat 22C ada problem dengan IE (Inflight Entertainment) dia...can u pls help me?" 

"Sure thing! I reset it for you...bagitau passenger tu jangan usik apa2 for few minutes" jawab crew yang bernama Amir.

"Thanks ...Amir" 

As she goes up to the upperdeck, Cathy and Rosley are still busy in the galley. Thank God ..Cathy tak nampak. Amy quickly jumpa Mr Terry yang handsome tu memberitahu apa yg diberitahu Amir. Few minutes after that, as Amy walking pass Mr Terry....he puts his thumbs up sambil mengenyit mata telling Amy that his TV screen is working now.

Belum sempat menarik nafas lega, kedengaran bunyi "CHIME" from the cockpit. OMG apa lagi yang cockpit crew ni nak? Since Cathy and Rosley still struggling in the galley...cepat2 Amy answered the call.

"Yes! Captain...Amy here"

"Can you pls tell Cathy and the rest of the crew that we are going to experience a turbulence in 10 minutes time. Secure your galley & cabin"

Nak tak nak kena la bagitau Cathy kat galley.


"Errrr...Cathy...Cathy!" Amy trying to get her attention.(dengan suara terketaq-ketaq)

Cathy couldn't hear Amy as she's busy checking meals...Alamak..tak dengar pulak...Amy kemudiannya memberanikan diri menguatkan suara.


"Whattttttt !!!???"  Cathy menjerit.

"Pontianak punya perempuan! Ko ingat aku kesah nak kacau ko sangat kalau kapten tak suruh pesan!" balas Amy.

Tapi respond Amy tu hanya dalam kepalanya saja. Thinking out loud. Gila nak say it out loud? Nak kena tamparrr? hahaha

"Captain ask me to inform you that  turbulence will be expected shortly" kata Amy. 

Waiting for Cathy's response, Amy stood up by the galley entrance.

"Are you retarded???? Why are you still standing there?? Go and secure your cabin!!" jerit Cathy.

Secure Cabin simply means that you have to check your cabin, collect loose item, ensure passengers wear their seat belts. 

24 people in the cabin with countless loose item like glasses etc had to be collected. How can that be possible to secure cabin in only few minutes? Alone?

Dah menggelabah, Amy went straight in the cabin and trying to collect loose item as much as she can with her bear hands. As she enter the galley with few glasses in her hands...she place it on the galley top.

"OMG...you are retarded!....you expect me to stored the glass  for you?" jerit Cathy lagi. Cepat2 Amy amik gelas dan simpan. Belum sempat nak keluar amik gelas lagi...kena maki lagi. "Youuu idiot....get a tray when collecting your glasses in the cabin" jerit Cathy dengan jelingan sinikal.

Lesson to be learned : Secara logik, lebih cepat kalau Amy nak collect glass menggunakan tray dari menggunakan tangannya. Setiap loose item yang dicollect hendaklah terus disimpan dan bukan ditinggalkan utk orang lain buat for you.


Bila dah menggelabah, Amy simply can't think straight. Dah la kena panggil retard, idiot....bertambah mengong la Amy dibuatnya. Muka Amy dah macam bubur lambuk basi. 

Cathy and Rosley unable to help Amy as they are busy clearing the galley. Almaklum, penuh barang2 in the galley to be cleared as they are preparing food for service. Makanan yg dah tersedia terpaksa dimasukkan balik ke tempat tertentu. Kalau tak clear alamat, barang2 akan terbang melayang dan hinggap kat kepala crew plak nanti. Makanan dah terbang. jatuh lantai...nak ganti macam mana? Catering bagi cukup2 je. So, everything have to secured....just in case.

Dalam tekanan tu...dapat plak crew  mcm Amy yang serba xtau....tak ke menyirap darah Cathy? If anything goes wrong, Cathy will be responsible and that sorts of  pressured her.

Biasanya, bila Captain memberitahu in advance turbulence akan berlaku...it's going to be serious..



Few minutes after, the seatbelt sign is ON. Cathy quickly capai mic dan for the 2nd time make her turbulence announcement. All the crew went to the cabin, checking on passengers. Shortly after an instruction on the PA frm Captain asking crew to be seated.
Kapal bergegar ala2 manja je.
Few minutes later, the seatbelt sign pun OFF.

Tak ke menyakitkan hati? All the faust ended up with just gegar2 manja je in the cabin!  Ini dah masuk kali kedua.

The service will now have to continue. They have to start all over again.

But you never know what really going to happen right? Kalau tak buat semua menda tu, buat plak betul2 turbulence teruk....mcm mana?

Safety is the most important task for cabin crew. Service comes in 2nd. Precaution is vital. Penumpang ramai yg xtau menda ni.

Try to ask for a drink masa seat belt sign on. When the crew denied your request, as penumpang korang buat muka kuah lodeh. As if tak dapat air immediately korang akan mati kehausan. Kalau air tersimbah kat kelengkang atau glass pecah dan luka ...masa tu complain dan marah2...masa mintak tak fikir... bila dah kena...salahkan orang.

As the crew continues their service, at anytime...the seat belt sign might comes on. They have to do the exact thing all over again. There are cases on flight where the service continues when seatbelt signs is on. That is when, the captain says "The seat belts signs is ON, continues service with caution and no hot drinks".

Amy still have another 10 working  hours before reaching London. A long way to go.......Apa lagi Devil wears kebaya yang bernama Cathy akan buat pada dia agaknya?

Lagi 10 jam Amy nak menahan azab. Nak mengadap muka Cathy lagi.

Dalam kepala otak Amy mcm banyak flash back. Flash back ..apa yg dipelajarinya selama 3 bulan latihan peramugari di Academy. Academy hanya mempersiapkan Amy dari segi teori. Nothing about how to handle azab, work load, expectation dan sudah tentu mcm mana nak deal with a supervisor like Cathy.

Amy is one of the top student in her batch. She remembers he service sequence very well, good product knowledge, good F&B knowledge. She scores among the highest in her class. Bila nak exam...semua nak duduk dekat dengan Amy. 

Amy budak pandai. Senang nak tiru kalau terdesak!

Bila dah start bekerja dan 'flying solo', semua tu dah xde makna. Everything sets to zero. You will be access on how you perform not how you score masa training.

Amy menarik nafas panjang. Dia mula pikir pasal London, pasal RM yg akan dia dapat pada 25hb yg akan datang. Apa dia nak beli dengan duit tu ...nak shopping puas2!

As Amy collecting loose item in the cabin, dia perasan Mr Brian ni dari tadi duk perhatikan dia. At the time like this, she need something else to distract her mind. So, she starts to flirt with Mr Brian.

"Mr Brian, would you like to have some more wines?"

"No..thank you...I am ok..thank you for asking Amy" balas mat salleh tu sambil melihat name tag Amy.

Sebelah Mr Brian is seorang perempuan (middle age). She looks very Malaysian. Masa Amy bertanya Mr Brian sama ada nak wine lagi ke tak....minah ni duk jeling kat Amy.

"Laki dia ke?" terdetik di hati Amy.

Dikeluarkan kertas nama penumpang to find out. Her name is Ms Amira. She got a remark "upgraded" in the list. "Owhhh! upgraded!". Confirm bukan! sebab Mr Brian is a genuine Business Class passenger. Amy memandai making her conclusion. Kalau bukan laki dia...apesal dia jeling? 

The problem with most Malaysian.... they don't know how to talk. Tanya sepatah..jawab sepatah. Before this Amy did ask her but she hardly open her mouth. She just mengeleng kepala and reply NO. As if ada tulisan kat dahi dorang "GO away...don't disturb me!" It's different than talking to mat saleh...they normally easy to talk to thus making more easier for the crew to have a conversation with them.

Akhirnya, service pertama tamat. Rosley..the steward in the galley tgh sibuk clearing things up. Cathy went downstairs to report to the Inflight Supervisor about the completion of service.

Balik saja dari bawah Cathy bertanya pada Amy " Have you ask the cockpit crew?". Alamak ! tanya apa pulak ni. Belum sempat Amy nak tanya...Cathy slam the oven door ! 

"Do I have to tell you ...everything?" "Idiottt" 

Rosley membisik "Tanya cockpit ...dorang nak makan apa?"

Nothing in the manuals says that...it's her duty to call the cockpit after service. By right, it's the IFS (Inflight supervisor) who supposed to take care of that.

It's just a courtesy for the crew to take care of cockpit on behalf of the IFS. But the courtesy dah jadi lain dah. Through time apa yg tertera di manual hanya sekadar tulisan. Sekarang dah jadi common practice for crew yg bekerja di upper deck utk buat menda tu.

From courtesy to common practice and now.....it's your job ! Manual ciptaan sendiri.

Selepas menjamu cockpit, Amy got distracted. Her main duties is to check toilet! tang ni xde plak courtesy from other crew yg free utk tolong cover up kerja Amy. Hahaha! adil sungguh!

Cathy membasuh Amy for not checking the toilets. Sebelum dia "membasuh" toilet, she kena "basuh" dulu dengan her superior.

Haha...checking toilet simply means that she need to ensure there's enough tissue, toilet roll & amenities in the toilet. She must also ensure that the toilet is dry. The mirror has to be cleaned and the toilet seat cover must be place accordingly. At the end, she needs to spray the toilet with semburan pewangi.

After the toilet, Amy terus ke galley. Rosley asked her..nak makan apa?

Amy replied "Apa yg ada?"

Cathy kat sebelah memerli "Steak with mushrooms sauce your majesty". 

Hilang selera Amy nak makan.

Another 9 hours to go!

Jam hampir menunjukkan pukul 3 pagi waktu Malaysia.

Akibat diperli, hilang selera Amy nak menjamah makanan yang ada. Sebaik saja tamat servis sebentar tadi, lampu kabin dimalapkan dan sekarang terus dipadamkan bagi memberi keselesaan pada penumpang. Lampu kabin boleh diubah-ubah. "Mood lighting" diberi nama. Nak makan, mood lampu mcm ni, masa boarding lain pula mood lampunya. Canggih sungguh! Rumah Amy xde mood lighting ni....cuma ada lampu kalimantang panjang yg terang benderang. Tahi hidung kat dinding pun boleh nampak!

Berada 33 ribu kaki di udara, dalam persekitaran yg terhad memerlukan suasana yg tertentu bagi mententeramkan penumpang. 12 jam dalam kapal, tanpa mood lighting, tanpa layanan, tanpa hiburan, tanpa makanan akan membuatkan penumpang merasa bosan.


Hampir semua penumpang di kelas perniagaan (business class) menukar mode kerusi ke flat bed (condong 45 darjah)bersedia untuk dibuai mimpi. Nyaman sungguh ketika berada di kabin. Amy berjalan-jalan dikabin  bagi memastikan penumpang selesa....membantu mereka apa yg patut. Ada juga yg terkial-kial duk tekan butang tu butang ni sebab nak tukar mode kerusi. Ya la kan, benda canggih..tak biasa pakai.  Ada la seorang dua yang masih mengadap personal skrin menonton filem blockbuster kegemaran mereka. Sunyi sepi kabin, jauh berbeza dengan apa yg berlaku tiga jam yang terdahulu.

Sebab terlalu sibuk, barulah sekarang Amy terasa yg tekaknya sangat kering. Baru dia perasan..rupanya setitik air pun tak diteguknya sejak kapal berlepas. Amy terus ke galley. 

"Amy...makan?" tanya rosley yg sedang makan. "Sila2" jawab Amy maintain courtesy. Disebelah Rosley, Cathy sedang mengaturkan waktu rehat utk crew. Lagi lima jam lebih utk servis seterusnya. Biasanya waktu ni, crew yang bertugas diberi waktu rehat secara bergilir-gilir. Dua jam setengah seorang. Rosley dijadualkan berehat dahulu (1st rest). Selepas tu baru Amy pulak (2nd rest). Cathy juga berehat on 2nd rest dimana beliau bergilir dengan seorang lagi Chief Stewardess yg betugas di First Class. Alamak! Ini bermakna...Cathy akan bersama  Amy sepanjang 2 jam setengah berikutnya.

Hasrat Amy nak meneguk air kegemarannya terpaksa dilupakan. Ini kerana Cathy sedang berdiri dihadapan SU tempat minuman bergas disimpan. Malas nak say "Excuse me"....tunggu je la...Cathy blah karang...barulah boleh minum. Rosley kemudian menerangkan kepada Amy, kedudukan beberapa barang yg diubah utk memudahkan Amy mencarinya kelak.

"Bowl utk Maggi, saya letak kat sini....semua condiments I dah warm up dalam warming cabinet. Maggi pulak belakang SU ni ya..." jelas Rosley.

"Kalau rajin, tolong I susunkan cutleries for breakfast service nanti. Tolong I letakkan salt & pepper on the tray sekali" 

"Cups dalam warming kabinet kalau dah pakai....ganti balik ya...sebab ni cups ni semua for breakfast. I letak cukup2 je"

"Oh ya..jangan lupa sandwiches ada kat cart ni kalau passengger nak"

"Ok ya...I pergi rehat dulu...I see u later" kata Rosley.

"Ok Rosley ...have a good rest" balas Amy. Agak blur jugak Amy dengan penerangan yang diberikan. Bila galley steward dah pergi berehat...ini bermakna Amy have to be in charge of the galley. She needs to know..what is where and how to manage the galley.

The cabin sunyi sepi. In the galley, Cathy opens her bar cart and starts questioning Amy.

"What type of wines do we have onboard?"

"Red & White"

"I said what type!"

Sesi "Are you smarter than your Chief Stewardess?" bermula. If you are able to answer any question given, you will minus one of many points utk your superior carik pasal dengan you...if not....you will be tortured mentally throughout your flight.

Amy teringat pesanan makciknya. Bekas peramugari yang bekerja selama 10 tahun di awal tahun 80an. Katanya, orang akan cari pasal dengan kita kalau kita xperform bila kerja. Kalau lembab dan slow bila kerja memang confirm akan kena TEOW.

Kedua, kalau  xtau pasal hal kerja (secara teori) tentang procdure etc.

Ketiga, courtesy kita kena tahap keluarga bangsawan. If you have an attitude problem...confirm kes cari penyakit.

Yang terakhir ialah kerana muka kita. Kalau orang tak suka tengok muka kau....semua yg kau buat akan jadi serba tak kena. Tepek la bedak seinci kat muka..ianya takkan membawa sebarang manfaat.

Itulah dia empat faktor yang membolehkan, yakni membenarkan orang cari pasal dengan kita. Katanya lagi, nak buang semua tak boleh...nak kurangkan boleh sebab faktor keempat adalah diluar kawalan diri.

Kalau xpandai, boleh belajar dengan lebih rajin. Kalau kerja slow motion...bila dah biasa dan lama sikit  akan menjadi cekap. Sikap kurang ajar, boleh diajar.... tapi kalau muka ko orang tak suka....xboleh buat apa dah. Confirm akan kena jugak!!

Dalam kes Amy VS Cathy ni, sah2 Cathy x suka tengok muka Amy. Kerja Amy slow sebab still new. Now, kena tanya soalan plak...banyak xleh jawab pulak tu...dah 3 faktor dari 4.  Cuma Amy x kurang ajar je lagi...

Amy budak pandai. Top student in her batch. Entah kenapa tiba2, semua data dalam processor hotak Amy tidak berfungsi. Kena serang virus Cathy. Everything went blank. She have not eaten, tired, stressed....awal pagi plak tu (jam almost 4am). Antara alasan yg bermain dalam kepala Amy for not able to answer Cathy's questions.


Pandangan mata Cathy sudah cukup untuk menyatakan "you don't deserved to be a good cabin crew". Sambil bertanya dan mencekak pinggang, Cathy meneguk air lalu tersedak dan terbatuk2 kesakitan.

Padan muka kau Cathy! Tapi itu hanya imaginasi liar Amy. She wished that Cathy tersedak masa meneguk air yg diminumnya so that her suffering will end.

Selepas sesi soal jawab tamat, Amy yg sangat dahaga ..memberanikan diri utk membuat minuman...nak buat MILO ES !

As courtesy, she makes two. One for her and another one for Cathy.

"Cathy, I made MILO ice for you" pelawa Amy.

Sambil menjeling melihat Milo yang dibuat "Look at the color jer..I dah tau tak sedap!!!" balas Cathy.

" by the way..I xminum Milo!!! Next time ask first" tambah Cathy.

"owhhh ok...sorryyyy" jawab Amy dengan nada yg sangat perlahan.

Cathy went downstairs to the main deck. Nita, crew frm main deck naik ke atas.

"Haiiiii. Amy...are you ok?" tanya Nita sambil memegang bahu Amy.

Sebak Amy dibuatnya dengan pertanyaan Nita tu. Something that she needs to hear after what she have been through sebentar tadi.

"You ok kannnnn? I datang nak amik refreshment! Passengers I dah start lapar i ols...hik hik hik" kata Nita

Selain merasa terharu dengan teguran Nita, Amy tak dapat mengalihkan tumpuan matanya ke arah mulut Nita. Pemerah bibir berkilat dan basah yang dipakai Nita terkumat-kamit berkata-kata, membuatkan pergerakan bibir Nita yang glossy menjadi tarikan matanya.

"Heyyy Amy! you dengar x apa yg I cakap ni?  berangan ke i ols? hik hik hik hik" sapa Nita setelah Amy gagal memberi respon.

"Ohh ! I dengar..." balas Amy walaupun sepatah haram dia x dengar kerana sangat distracted dengan bibir Nita..lol

"You know what? In the airlines...kalau ada carta top 10 bitchy...she conpem no 1! Juara carta!" celoteh Nita menyambung gossipnya. Walaupun sambil bercakap kerja Nita tetap jalan. Tangannya sibuk memunggah refreshments yg disimpan di dalam cart.

"Bitchy?" tanya Amy.

"Alaaa Amy..I know laaa it's not a good word but itulah gelaran yg kita bagi pada orang yg suka buat other people's life miserable..hik hik hik hik hik" kata Nita sambil mata memerhatikan tangga kut2 Cathy naik buat kejutan.

"Dia memang garang ke?" tanya Amy berminat.

"Aiyooo Amy...you are not the only one...as I said tadi la...kalau ada carta top 10, dia mesti menang sebab semua yg pernah kena taruhhh akan vote for her! hik hik hik hik By the way...she's 24 hours like that one....some people period got musim one but she ....period sepanjang tahun. Kesiaaaaannnn kannnnn? hik hik hik hik hik"

Baru Amy terperasan something very irritating about Nita. Her laugh yang hik hik hik tu. Dah la nyaring pastu  sepanjang masa pulak tu. 

Cathy tiba-tiba muncul. 

"Wahhhhhh! seronok kan kerja?  the airlines pay u to gossip here? bapak u punya airline nak buat sesuka hati?" bentak Cathy.

"Sorrryyy Cathy....saja je borak2 sikit sambil ambil  refreshment ni hik hik hik hik" jawab Nita tersengeh kerang busuk kerana hampir kantoi. 

Sebaik saja Nita turun, naik pula dua orang cockpit crew. Cockpit crew dari Team B yang akan menggantikan Team A yang sedang bertugas. Mereka terus ke cockpit.

Cathy mula menjeling lalu membeliakkan biji mata tanda marah!

"Kenapa x tanya dorang what they want for a drink????" marah Cathy.

Amy terpinga-pinga..sambil bertanya kembali "Oh kena tanya eh?"

"Ya laaaaaa...!!! Bodoh!!! my maid is smarter than you!" jerit Cathy.

Apa la yang big deal sangat pasal  nak tanya minum cockpit crew ni. Crew macam terpaksa dan kena beriya-iya sangat dalam hal melayan kehendak mereka yg ada RANK ni. Seolah-olah mcm takut sangat atau sesuatu yg buruk akan berlaku jika cockpit crew marah.

Amy called the cockpit, but they don't want any drinks but they requested for newspaper instead.

After sending the cockpit crew what they want, on the way balik ke galley, Amy ternampak two empty glasses. She decided to just grab those glasses. As she enters the galley, again she got scolded from Cathy for not collecting the tray with a silver tray.

"It's the bloody procedure!! Use trays to collect your glasses! Ko ingat ni kedai mamak???"

To Amy what's a big deal sangat pasal sampai nak kena ada tray to collect glasses. Dengan muka masam, Amy menarik pintu cart untuk menyimpan gelas dan kemudian menutup pintu tersebut dengan kuat. Pappp. Terkejut Cathy dibuatnya! Bukan sahaja berbunyi kuat malah Amy terlupa latch pintu tersebut.

One! you will disturb your passenggers. Two! It's dangerous to leave something unlatch. Kalau kapal menyendeng the whole cart yang berat akan terkeluar dan terus menghentam crew di galley. Those are the things  to be considered as serious mistakes.

"Heyyy look! I don't bloody care about your feelings! Do your job properly! If you don't like it. RESIGNED!" marah Cathy.

Amy quickly apologised to her. In the academy, instructors often reminded all trainees about how important it is to use magic words such as Sorry, Excuse me etc. Does those magic words work with Cathy?

Cathy replied " Sorry...sorry...your sorry don't mean anything if you keep making mistakes!!!"

Amy feel like crying but she tahan. She decided to ignore it  and  continue doing her work to distract her sadness.

Fed up with Amy, Cathy went downstairs. After few minutes, no matter how she tahan...she broke down into tears.

"Are you ok?" asked Rosley who just got back from his rest. Thank god! It's a huge relief for Amy having someone around her. Kena marah bila keseorangan berbeza bila kena marah bila ada someone around you.

"Relax ya Amy...take it easy. Your rest is next." tambah Rosley.

"Tah laaa Rosley..apa I buat semua xkena...asyik kena marah je" balas Amy.

"I know...but you need to focus...don't let her get to you. Avoid making anymore mistakes. Remember to Focus..." nasihat si Rosley.

Rosley terus menenangkan Amy.

"Amy ..kalau you ada buat salah..I will alert you first. Just listen to me, you will be fine...now you can go for your rest...tukar baju kat belakang ok...bukan kat depan...kalau Cathy nampak kena marah plak. Jangan overslept and make it on time ok" kata Rosley.

Amy went for her rest.

Dalam perjalanan Amy ke crew bunk (tempat rehat crew), mata crew-crew lain memandang ke arahnya. Walaupun tanpa kata-kata, pandangan tersebut membawa pelbagai makna.



Kesian! Padan muka kau. Oh! inilah mangsa flight kali ini. Are you ok? Antara pandangan yang sempat ditafsir oleh Amy dari riak muka rakan sekerjanya.

Setibanya Amy di crew bunk, keadaan yang gelap menyukarkan Amy mencari bunk yang kosong. Amy antara yang paling lewat sampai kerana terpaksa menunggu lama menukar pakaian di toilet bahagian belakang kapal. Terkial-kial Amy dibuatnya. Nak dibuka lampu, marah pula crew-crew yang sedang berehat.




Crew bunk ialah tempat crew berehat. Ada 8 tempat tidur. Tak berapa nak tinggi kerana crew terpaksa membongkok ketika berdiri dalam crew bunk. Some crew call it coffin as it is just nice untuk you baring. 

Dalam kegelapan, tangan Amy dipegang. Terperanjat Amy dibuatnya. 

"It's me laaa...hik hik hik" suara halus seakan berbisik menyapa Amy.

Sapaan itu diikuti dengan nyalaan lampu picit. Barulah Amy nampak siapa yang menyapa yang memegang tangannya. Tak lain dan tak bukan, Nita yang bekerja di main deck.

"Atas I ni kosong...hik hik hik...." 
"Yang sebelah kanan I ni...our chief Cathy dah booking" tambah Nita.

Gituhhh la. Ingat hotel je orang booking. Crew bunk pun boleh buat booking ya. Selimut dibentangkan sebagai  tanda bunk tersebut telah dibooking. Biasanya yang berani booking ni ialah seniors atau yang ada pangkat.

Hanya yang tinggal disebelah atas..semua yang di bahagian bawah dah penuh. Bahagian atas menjadi pilihan terakhir kerana terpaksa nak memanjat!

Tepongeng-ponggeng Amy memanjat untuk naik ke atas. Sambil terbaring,  Amy berusaha membuka selimut dan mengalihkan arah air vent yang menuju tepat ke mukanya. 

Dua jam setengah masa yang diperuntukan untuk Amy berehat, digunakan sebaiknya untuk Amy menenangkan dirinya. Recharge. Tapi, setelah apa yang berlaku, bukan mudah baginya untuk terus tidur lena seakan-akan tiada apa yang berlaku.

Amy cuba menutup mata namun di fikiran Amy, ibarat flash back, setiap patah kata-kata Cathy bermain-main dikepalanya. Walaupun menutup mata, fikirannya aktif memikirkan apa yang harus dilakukannya semasa meal servis nanti. 
Setelah beberapa ketika, Amy akhirnya lena.

Amy! Amy!

Amy dikejutkan oleh Nita. Terkejut Amy dibuatnya. Amy terus melihat jam nya sambil memikirkan yang dia telah over slept. Jam menunjukkan yang dia masih ada masa kurang dari 15 minit  untuk bersiap sedia dan kembali ke kabin.

Dengan segera Amy bangun dan mengemaskan bunk. 

"Ehhh Amyy..xpayah kemas la dear...! hik hik hik Kalau first rest baru you kena kemas...last rest xpayah lagi" kata Nita

Sekejap sangat rasanya. Dua jam (setelah ditolak masa bersiap) ibarat sekelip mata. 

Baru saja Amy menutup mata dan dalam beberapa saat dah dua jam! 

Amy turun kebawah. Alangkah terperanjat Amy apabila melihat begitu ramai penumpang yang beratur hendak ke toilet. Amy melihat jam tangannya sekali lagi. Amy hanya ada kurang 10 minit untuk bersiap.

Dalam 10 minit, Amy hendaklah menyalin pakaian, make up & membetulkan rambutnya. Kalau kat rumah buat rambut je dah 15 minit! belum make up lagi! Rambut Amy ni kena buat croissant  lagikkkkkkk. Adoiiiyaiii!

Amy berlari ketengah kabin dengan harapan ada toilet yang lain kosong. Tindakan Amy itu mengundang bahaya. Kalau dia dijumpai oleh Cathy...nahas! Dia pasti akan dimarahi kerana berjalan di kabin dalam keadaan tidak terurus atau serabai.

Nasib Amy agak baik. Kebetulan pula ada toilet yang kosong. 

Sebaik sahaja Amy masuk...alangkah terperanjatnya Amy bila memandang mukanya di cermin. Muka sembap dan siap ada garisan lagi mukanya..buruk sungguh! huhuhu

Kerana tergesa-gesa mengejar masa, Amy terus menyalin pakaian, touch up make up dan membetulkan rambutnya yang kusut masai itu. Setelah siap Amy terus naik ke upper deck untuk memulakan tugasnya.

Alangkah lega dihati apabila kelibat kelihatan. Yang ada cuma Rosley yang sibuk membuat persediaan untuk sarapan pagi.

"Good Morning Amy. I hope that u dah cukup rehat" sapa Rosley.

"Morning...yeah I did" jawab Amy sambil tersenyum menarik nafas lega. 

"Amy...your hair tu masih terkeluar...you better fix it before Cathy tegur...cepat pergi toilet depan" tegur Rosley apabila melihat rambut Amy yang tak menepati ciri-ciri grooming yang telah ditetapkan.

Tanpa berlengah Amy terus ke toilet kelas business membuat apa yang sepatutnya.

Beberapa minit kemudian Cathy muncul.

"Where's that silly girl? tanya Cathy.

"Ada...she is at the toilet..tgh replenish toiletries and cleaning the toilet" jawab Rosley memberi alasan.

"I am going downstairs. When she comes back, ask her to see me at First Class" kata Cathy.

"Ok" jawab Rosley sambil membuat hand gesture 'thumbs up'.

Beberapa minit kemudian Amy kembali ke galley. 

"Amy....Cathy wants to see you kat first class." tegas Rosley.

"Huh? why?" tanya Amy dengan perasaan cemas.

"I have no idea..." jawab Rosley.

Dengan tergesa-gesa Amy turun ke First Class untuk mencari Amy. But kelibat Amy tidak kelihatan. 

"Amy, IFS wants to see you" sapa Noreen. Noreen is working in first class and telling Amy on Cathy's behalf.
(IFS is short form for Inflight Supervisor - the highest chain of command after the technical crew)

"He is at seat 4A" tambah Noreen.
