The movie doesn’t go well with the critics. Few girl friends of mine recommended it and actually watched it several times. They also cried. Well, obviously..they are a big fan of Zac Efron....I understand why they got excited about it. Last night, I have decided to watch it to find out.
The acting was ok, the story was ok, but the few things that it lacked were the direction, storyline and the plots. The dramatic parts of the movie were so close to being perfect, I was on the verge of tears several times, but they did not reach their full potential. I think if the director would have pushed just a little further, the movie would have been an epic.
Not worthy of a motion picture, this film lacks a few things. The direction of the film lacks substance and vision. Efron is a decent actor, but, really is just a pretty face with little or no range. But, if you compared with his roles in High School Musical, his acting is definately much more better.
Not a whole lot going on in this film. Charlies brother died. Charlie still sees Sam, and plays ball with him every day. Charlie falls in love with a girl. Charlie cant miss a single day of seeing his brother, so his life is at a standstill. Girlfriend, tells Charlie to move on with his life. blah blah blah... Cant give away ending, not that its exciting at all. No real plot, not a good storyline.
I've seen Ghost Whisperer, Tru Calling, this movie was just another one of those.
I think the movie dodged being better by playing it 'safe', the main character didn't do anything wrong, never had any moral dilemma... or, put another way, he had them but never had to choose.
I thought the movie would tackle a real problem, that of being *partially* responsible for the death of someone. But no, he didn't do a single thing wrong, he wasn't sleepy, he wasn't driving while texting, he didn't do anything wrong.
And then I thought there would be a struggle by having to choose between the boy and going on a trip with the girl, but no, the film made him leave the ghost of the boy by making him save the girl who was certainly alive and he knew it for a fact, no real dilemma there.
And then, to be even more safe, the film made sure the boy was happy going into the light, and just to be even more safe, the boy came back and told the audience at the end how great things were and that he didn't resent the missed appointment.
Did I liked the movie? I liked it but... don’t really enjoyed it.
Would I recommend others to watch it? Yeahhh sure..go and watch it... because you might like it! Many of my friends seems to enjoy it. Especially, if you are a big fan of Zac Efron.
